colour management
White Horse Press are one of the few printers in the world whose proofs and printing, both spot and process conforms to the high standards of ISO Coated (fogra27L (based on ISO 12627-2).
Commenting on the accreditations, Peter Arnel, joint managing director of White Horse Press, said, 'The more you examine the elements of the various standards that are being talked about in the industry, the more you realise that there is a lot of confusion around. It may surprise clients, but there is no nationally agreed standard in the UK for colour printing. Printers have traditional profiled their proofs to match their presses and set their own standard (good or bad) in isolation of what is happening around them.
All this is having to change, our industry is now encompassing photographers in the digital workflow and clients are quite rightly wanting colour predictability throughout the supply chain not only among their printers but also across the process range (digital and litho) .
During the last 6 months my production team has been working hard with some of the leading colour experts in the UK to, not only to understand Colour Management but to proof and print to the ISO Coated Fogra27 standard using the staccato 20 micron dot.
The ISOCoated standard was developed by Fogra in Germany and is the one adopted by Adobe and Pantone and accepted by all the colour management experts as the only standard to follow.
All our proofs are now produced using the ISOCoated profile and will soon be individually certified with a label to give reassurance that they are correct.
The significance of us now having a proof that matches the standard, with our presses calibrated to match the standard , is and we hope that you agree, the way forward.
The changes in our printing have also been significant, we are running with richer colours, matching CMYK Pantone colours, and with the staccato dot, have considerable more detail in the mid and three quarter tones of images.
The staccato dot is one of the new hybrid fm screening dots from Creo (now Kodak ) who are the leading pre press innovators in the world. Compared to conventional dots there are nearly 20 times as many dots in an area giving far more detail.
From the feedback we are having from clients they agree with us that the changes we have made have made a significant improvement to our quality' |
