Working group plans out UK scheme for ISO 12647/2 colour standard

The BPIF Technical Standards Committee has taken the initial steps to develop a UK-wide certification scheme for the ISO 12647/2 colour management standard.

The 20-strong group, which consists of printers, print buyers and colour experts, is chaired by Peter Arnel, managing director of White Horse Press, Newbury.

Arnel said of the 22 November meeting that "there was a great deal of support for establishing just one UK certification scheme that will be accepted throughout the world in a similar way that Fogra and Ugra schemes are."

He added: "However, much work still needs to be done to determine how this might work in practice, without adding unduly to printers' costs."

Arnel told printweek.com: "There has been a lot of talk about having a standard for colour printing as you can't certify yourself to an ISO colour standard, more comply with it."

"We want to have this as part of a wider consultation, to get people in a room and talk about it and make it credible for both the printer and the buyer."

The group is set to continue its consultation and will meet on 5 February 2008.
